Organization Information Lighting The Way For Kids is a 501 C (3) non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping qualified disadvantaged high school studants who, due to social and economical circumstances beyond the their control, would otherwise be denied a post secondary education and, therefore, face the prospect of a bleak future. Lighting The Way for Kids has joined forces with the Florida State Sponsored Program, "Take Stock in Children," to double its efforts in breaking the cycle of minimum wage earning, poverty riden, or troubled families by introvention with mentors, and financial assistance in the form of a four year scholarship for qualified students who otherwise; due to poor sholastic performance, but otherwise capable, would be denied the, more traditional, scholarships and chance for a brighter future.

| Company History Above, standing middle row, Dr. Plinio Tuta is the Founder and President of Lighting The Way For Kids, and recepiant of the 2007 Jefferson Award for his public service to the community. He is a member of the Marianna Optimist Club, and serves as Chairman of the Youth Sports Committee. For his work with youth in Jackson County Floirda, he was nominated as Jackson County's Chamber of Commerce Citizen of The Year Award, and the Nationally recognized, Jefferson Award for Public Service. Other Marianna Optimist Club Members include above are Mr. Lowell Centers, and Jamie Streetman. | Mission Statement Lighting The Way for Kids belives that mentoring is the key to success. Nation wide research shows that if a young person is mentored they are 52% less likely to skip school, 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs, and 27% less likely to begin drinking alcohol. Lighting The Way for Kids menotrs commit their time to the students throughout the duration of their middle and high school careers. These mentors provide motivation, guidance, friendship, and support to help ensure the child's success in school and in life. The Lighting The Way for Kids program is dependant upon the community for donations in time and money. |
